His Holiness Serbian Patriarch kyr Porfirije visited on 7 December 2025, at the personal invitation of Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, Chief Advisor to King Abdullah II for Religious and Cultural Affairs, the holy site of Al-Maghtas, where, according to Tradition, Saint John the Baptist preached and baptized our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Prince personally guided His Holiness and his entourage along the Path of John the Baptist, showing them Elijah’s Hill and the Spring of Saint John the Baptist – the places of the ascension of the Holy Prophet Elijah and the preaching of the Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord – as well as five ancient churches, built between the fifth and twelfth centuries, with a cruciform baptismal font at the site of the Savior’s baptism.
On this occasion, while welcoming his distinguished guest, Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad conveyed to His Holiness Patriarch kyr Porfirije the desire of King Abdullah II to grant to the Serbian Orthodox Church a parcel of land near the place where Saint John baptized the Lord Jesus Christ. His Holiness received His Majesty’s gesture with great joy and gratitude, emphasizing that by this act King Abdullah II has inscribed his name in golden letters in the history of the Serbian Orthodox Church
